The Lord Botetourt girls will host Salem tonight, Wednesday, in a big non-district game. The Spartans come in with just one loss while LB was 8-7 after splitting two Blue Ridge District games last week.

The Cavaliers hosted William Byrd last Tuesday and took a 57-32 win in Daleville. Botetourt led by just five points at the half but blew it open after intermission.

Maggie Hoover had a big night with 17 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Layla McGavock had a career high with 14 points, Natalee Bowling scored a dozen and Jaiden Dann was a fourth Cavalier in double figures with 10 points. LB had 18 assists as a team.

Last Friday the girls played William Fleming in Roanoke and dropped a 54-26 decision to the Blue Ridge District’s first place team. Botetourt trailed by just five at the half but poor foul shooting and turnovers proved to be the difference. LB was 0-for-six from line in the first half and, for the game, had 27 turnovers to just six for Fleming. The Colonels won the fourth quarter, 20-4, to pull away.

“They were able to take 24 more shots than us as a result of turnovers and offensive boards,” said LB coach Renee Favaro. “It’s hard to hang past a half when that happens. William Fleming also started to hit their outside shots in the second half.”

The loss dropped LB to 2-2 in the district and the Cavs were scheduled to play at Northside Tuesday but results were too late for publication. Next week the girls are at Franklin County on Tuesday, at Liberty a week from tonight and home to Staunton River on Friday, Jan. 30.
