The Lord Botetourt golfers qualified for the Virginia High School League Class 3 tournament with a second place finish in the Region 3D tournament last week. Pulaski County won the region with a team score of 303 at the Cougars’ home Draper Valley course and Botetourt was second at 309.
“Hate that we played our worst round of the year, but happy that we are still able to move on to states,” said LB coach Todd Smith.
Botetourt had three scores in the 70s, led by Aidan Mitchell’s 73. Alisa Davidova and Jeremy Simmons both shot 75 and the Cavaliers’ fourth counting score was an 86 by Garrett Honts. Trace Reavis of Carroll County was medalist with a 69.
The Cavaliers and Cougars now move on to the state tournament at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg next Tuesday, October 15.
“I’m excited for the kids to get this opportunity and hopefully we can go up there and play our best,” said Smith. “They’ve worked hard all year and it’s pretty cool to finish the season at the state tournament as a team.”
