The Lord Botetourt golfers had four of the top six scores when the Blue Ridge District held the first “mini-match” at the Cooper Cove course at Smith Mountain Lake last week.
Ashton Harper of LB was the medalist with a one-under-par score of 35 over nine holes. Chase Bower of Franklin County was second with a 37, then Samir Davidov of Botetourt and Northside’s Peyton Spangler tied for the next spot with 38. Botetourt’s Jake Koffman was fifth with a 39 and Dylan Salvi of the Cavaliers tied Michael Pankey of Northside for sixth place with 40.
Botetourt’s four-man score of 152 gave the Cavaliers an 11-stroke edge over Northside’s 163 after one round. Franklin County was next at 166, William Byrd had 174 and Staunton River had 231. William Fleming does not have a team.
The second round of district play was scheduled for Tuesday at Hanging Rock in Roanoke County, but results were too late for publication. Next Tuesday, Aug. 31, the golfers are at Blue Hills.
