The Lord Botetourt golfers added a Blue Ridge District tournament championship to their bag on Monday, winning a trophy in a playoff with Franklin County at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club. The Cavaliers had previously won the regular season.
While that was well and nice, the big fish are yet to be caught. LB will compete in the Region 3D tournament next Tuesday, October 1, in Bristol, Tenn.
The tournament is hosted by Abingdon High, and the host school cannot play on its home course. That’s why Abingdon chose to go out of state, just slightly over the Virginia-Tennessee border, to find a course for the regional. The tournament will be played at the Country Club of Bristol.
“It’s not their home course, but I’m sure their players are very familiar with it,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “I’d never even heard of it.”
The Cavaliers will go to Bristol Monday to play a practice round in preparation for Tuesday’s tournament. Smith hopes the Cavaliers play a little better than they did this week, when they tied Franklin County through 18 holes at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club in the district tournament. Both teams shot 309 to force a playoff.
“We didn’t play our best, but we played good enough,” said Smith. “We stepped up for the playoff hole.”
Botetourt’s four players had three birdies and a par on the extra hole to win the playoff, 17-27. Samir Davidov, Kaitlyn Mosdell and Kyle Lograsso all had birdies and Ashton Harper had a par.
Davidov was the medalist in the district tournament with a score of 71. Also scoring for LB were Mosdell at 78 and Lograsso and Jake Koffman with 80 each.
