Lord Botetourt graduate Lyndsey Hunnell has accepted the position of assistant women’s golf coach for Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. Campbell is a Division I school in the Big South Conference.
Lyndsey was named to the Big East All Conference Golf Team in May as a member of the Xavier University golf team after the Musketeers won their first golf conference championship in school history. She also played for the University of Virginia before joining the Xavier team as a graduate senior transfer.
Hunnell was the Roanoke Valley Women’s Player of the Year in 2012, won the 2015 Roanoke Valley Women’s Golf Association City-County championship and won the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame tournaments in both 2015 and ’16. She played in the U.S. Amateur Championship in 2016.
Lyndsey was working as an intern for the American Junior Golf Association in San Diego, Calif. when she got the call from Campbell for an interview. John Crooks, the head women’s and men’s coach at Campbell, was a member of the Botetourt Country Club in the ’80s and early ’90s. He was named to the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January of 2006.
