University of Texas freshman Olivia Bray, a Lord Botetourt High School graduate, qualified for the finals of the 100-meter butterfly with a school record time of 58.07 in Sunday evening’s United States Olympic Team Trials semifinals in Omaha, Neb.. Olivia then finished seventh in the finals on Monday night.
The top-two finishers in the individual swimming events at the U.S. Olympic Trials earn spots on the official Team USA roster. Torri Huske won the event in an American-record time of 55.66, while Claire Curzan claimed her Olympic spot with a second-place finish (56.43). Bray’s teammate, Kelly Pash, finished sixth in the finals.
Bray posted the 14th-fastest time in the prelims (58.90). In Sunday night’s semifinals, Bray set a school record (58.07) to earn the seventh-fastest time and automatically qualify for the finals, which included the top eight.
