The Lord Botetourt High basketball teams will play in holiday tournaments in the next week, with the boys at Hidden Valley this week and the girls in Gatlinburg, Tenn., next week.
The boys tournament is a four-team “Titan Basketball Invitational” at Hidden Valley High beginning Thursday of this week. Lord Botetourt is scheduled to play Magna Vista at 5 p.m., followed by Rockbridge County against host Hidden Valley at 7 p.m. The two winners will play for the championship at 7 p.m. Friday following a 5 p.m. consolation game.
The LB boys evened their record at 3-3 on the season with a 66-61 win over Salem in the Bob Johnson Classic at Lord Botetourt High School last Saturday. The five-game event featured games with coaches tied to legendary Emory & Henry coach Bob Johnson.
Next week LB will play in another holiday event at Spotswood High School. The Cavs will take on Staunton High on Thursday, December 28, at 3 p.m. and Eastern Mennonite High on Saturday, December 30, also at 3 p.m.
The Lord Botetourt girls will play in the eight-team Smoky Mountain Winter Classic tournament in Gatlinburg, Tenn., at Rocky Top Sports World. The tournament begins on December 27 and runs for three days.
The Cavaliers will open with a game against Riverside of South Carolina at 1 p.m. on December 27. Other games find Lebanon, Tenn., against Ridgeview, Va., Rockcastle County, Ky., against Westside, S.C., and Gatlinburg-Pittman, Tenn., against Hardin Valley, Tenn.
Semifinals are Thursday of next week and the championship is Friday, December 29. There is also a consolation bracket so every team is guaranteed three games.
Lord Botetourt is 5-1 after falling to Patrick Henry at home for their first loss of the season last week. The Patriots used a big second half to pull away from the Cavaliers for a 51-38 win. LB is scheduled to play at Cave Spring on Thursday of this week for their last game before Christmas.
