The Lord Botetourt volleyball team is the top seed in Blue Ridge District tournament, which will be held at William Fleming High School this week.

The tourney opened with a “four-five” game Monday, as fourth place Staunton River ousted fifth seeded William Fleming in straight sets. The win earned Staunton River a shot at top-seeded Botetourt on Tuesday at Fleming, and in the second game Northside met William Byrd. The championship is scheduled for Thursday at Fleming, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Cavaliers come into the tournament with a 23-0 record after wrapping up the regular season with a dominating win over Northside last week. The Cavaliers beat the Vikings in their own gym, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-12.

Miette Veldman continued her all-state caliber play with 19 kills against a tall Northside front line. She also had three blocks and five aces.

Lara Veldman had eight kills and six aces and Catherine Reinard had eight kills and three aces. Jordyn Kepler dished out 38 assists.

The Cavaliers are looking forward to the Region 3D tournament, which will begin at the higher seeds next Monday, Oct. 30. The tournament then moves to Hidden Valley for the semifinals and finals.
