Lord Botetourt’s Evan Gates (223) placed 12th with teammate Bryson Cook (222) right behind in 13th at the Class 3 boys state championship on Wednesday at Green Hill Park.

Two Lord Botetourt runners earned All-State honors as the Cavaliers took fifth in the state in Class 3 cross country last week. Western Albemarle won the state championship on the Green Hill Park course in Roanoke County.

Junior Evan Gates of LB took 12th place and senior Bryson Cook was 13th, with the top 15 being named All-State. Owen Shifflett of Western Albemarle was the individual champion at 16:00 while Gates ran a 16:48 and Cook finished in 16:50.

Also scoring for LB were sophomore Carter Hudson in 34th,  senior Evan Poff in 38th and freshman Rye Jackson in 44th. Arun Hajra and Andres Hernandez also competed for LB.

“This completes a challenging but very, very rewarding season,” said LB coach Robert Sullivan. “As coaches we are very proud of the boys and girls teams and what they accomplished this season. Many of them earned All District based on finishes this season.”

Seven boys and girls from LB earned All Region this year, topped off by Gates and Cook earning All-State.

“It’s a huge credit to all of the kids and the effort they put into this season,” said Sullivan.
