LB, JR runners in respective regional meets today at Green Hill Park

Green Hill Park in Roanoke County will be buzzing with action today as region meets will be held for both Group 2A, Region C and Group 3A, Region D for both the boys and girls.

The Lord Botetourt cross country team will compete in the Group 3A, Region D meet. The girls are scheduled to run at 1 p.m. with the boys at 1:45 p.m.

The Group 2A, Region C meet will follow with the girls at 3:45 p.m. and the boys at 4:30 p.m. James River will run in that meet.

Last week the Blue Ridge District meet was held in Moneta but the Cavaliers did not run their varsity boys or girls. The top finishers for LB were Kevin Buchanan, who was 12th in the boys meet, and Keeley McNamara, who was fifth among the girls.

The Three Rivers District meet was held at Green Hill Park last week and James River’s boys won. The Knights finished with 31 points to outrun Radford, who had 57. Other teams included Alleghany-94, Glenvar-107, Floyd-109, Giles-129 and Carroll County-172.

Will Miller of James River won the district championship in a personal record time of 15:39. Dalton Simmons was fifth with a time of 17:22, William Fowler was sixth in 17:32, Zach Hodges took eighth in17:42 and Noel Preece rounded out the scoring in 11th with a time of 17:49. Miller, Simmons, Hodges, Preece and Cole Miller all had PR’s and Will Miller, Simmons, Fowler and Hodges made the All-District team by finishing in the top 10.

The girls team placed fifth as Floyd County won the district title. River’s top runner was Grace Montgomery.
