The high school swim season opens this Saturday when the Lord Botetourt girls participate in the annual Southwest Invitational at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
LB coach Ashley Safrit returns Hannah and Max Mizuba, Olivia Nicely and Julia Misicko and newcomer Analise Buyalos will add to the team. Botetourt has a dozen new swimmers.
“We have a large girls team this year,” said Safrit. “We’re excited for the abilities that we have seen in the pool so far this season.”
At James River, Kit Williams returns as coach after retiring nine years ago. She’ll have a trusty assistant in daughter Madison Williams.
“We have seven varsity swimmers and four eighth graders,” said Kit. “Lydia Jones and Joel Barber are freshmen and junior Kingston Bean will be a great addition to the team. We have four returning swimmers and our goal for the season is to create more support for the team and build back the program.”
The Knights will open the season on Thursday, December 12, at the Botetourt YMCA.
