The Lord Botetourt softball girls came up one win short of making the Class 3 state tournament when they lost to Christiansburg in a Region 3D quarterfinal game. The Cavaliers were shut out, 17-0, as their season came to an end.
LB was a heavy underdog going into the game against a Christiansburg team that might be the school’s best ever. The Blue Demons are 21-3 and they went on to beat Blue Ridge District champ Staunton River, 5-1, in Friday’s Region 3D championship. Christiansburg was set to host a state quarterfinal game Tuesday.
Lord Botetourt ended the season with a 13-10 overall record.
“Although our season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, we were extremely blessed to just get to spend another day together on the field,” said LB coach Megan Cook. “Our seniors made this season so special and they will all be dearly missed next year. Losing so many seniors can be discouraging, but we choose to look at the coming years with a fresh and positive new beginning.”
