Lord Botetourt will be the second seed whenever the Blue Ridge District softball tournament gets underway this week. Opening round games were scheduled for Tuesday but inclement weather at press time threatened to throw a monkey wrench into the proceedings.
The Cavaliers come into the tournament at 12-8 overall and 8-2 in the Blue Ridge District after ending the regular season with two district wins last week. On Thursday Bry Orange hit a grand slam home run and Grace Thomas struck out nine Terriers as LB beat William Byrd, 9-1, in Daleville. Botetourt had 14 hits in the win.
On Friday the Cavaliers were back home for “Senior Night” and they made it a good one with a 7-0 shutout win. LB honored seniors Mikayla Reed, Jackson Kemper, Hadley Evans, Justice Niday, Riley Shupe, Grace Thomas, Bryanna Orange and Kaden Johnson. Evans celebrated with a four-hit game and Orange picked up the win in the circle.
LB also played William Fleming and Cave Spring last week as the Cavs had four games in four days. They beat Fleming on Tuesday, 14-3, as Orange drove in four runs on two hits, including a home run, and Reed had three hits. They lost at Cave Spring on Wednesday, 14-7, despite home runs by Orange and Autumn Russell.
The Blue Ridge District championship game is scheduled for Friday at William Fleming, weather permitting.
