The Lord Botetourt softball team bounced back in a big way last week with three wins, all on the road, including two against Blue Ridge District opponents. The Cavaliers had lost four in a row prior to last week.
“Last week was a great reset for us as we regained confidence in ourselves to stay strong in the district,” said LB coach Megan Cook.
Botetourt opened the week with a 15-0 win at William Fleming. Callie Kidd was three-for-three at the plate and Gracelynn Clark also had three hits. Kidd and Sammie Carroll drove in three runs and Maya Mougin and Mikayla Reed also had multiple hits to back the pitching of Grace Thomas, who pitched a one-hitter for LB.
Last Wednesday the Cavaliers traveled to Hidden Valley where they took a 12-6 non-district win. Autumn Russell drove in five runs on three hits, highlighted by a third inning home run. The Botetourt bats were alive with 17 hits as Riley Shupe, Jackson Kemper and Reed joined Russell with three-hit days. Kidd and Gracie Sargent had clutch RBIs for the Cavs and Bry Orange earned the win in the circle.
On Friday LB was back in the Blue Ridge District with a game at Northside, and LB made it a clean sweep for the week with a 13-0 win. Russell had another big game with three hits, including another home run. Botetourt continued to pound the ball with 15 hits. Shupe, Sargent and Hadley Evans led the way with multiple hits and Thomas picked up her second pitching win of the week as the Cavaliers shut out Northside.
With the big week the Cavs moved back over .500 at 6-5 and they took a 2-1 BRD record to Franklin County Tuesday. The girls will play Franklin again on Friday at home.
