Jacob Vance, a 2021 Lord Botetourt High School graduate who plans to attend Liberty University, has been awarded the Don Holliday Memorial Scholarship by the Don Holliday Memorial Scholarship Board of Directors. The four-year, $30,000 scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving boy or girl from Southwest Virginia who also has an interest in golf.
Vance was on the LB golf team from eighth grade through his recently completed senior year. He was an honor roll student at LBHS with a 3.39 grade point average, and completed his FAA Ground School while maintaining his honor roll status in high school. Jacob volunteers at the local Rescue Mission, the Ronald McDonald House and Operation Christmas Child.
The Don Holliday Memorial Foundation, a 501-C3 Charitable Corporation, was formed in 1986 to honor the memory of Don Holliday, District Sales Manager of Piedmont Airlines. The first Don Holliday Memorial Golf Tournament took place in June 1987 and the proceeds have gone to the scholarship fund for the past 34 years.
The Don Holliday Memorial Golf Tournament has grown to one of the top charity events in the state, awarding over $460,000 in scholarships. The scholarship is administered by the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame.
