The Region 3D tennis tournaments were held at various locations last week and the Lord Botetourt teams both won opening matches before falling in the semifinals.
The girls went into the tournament as the number one seed and played host to Magna Vista at the Roanoke College courts on Thursday of last week. The girls played eight game sets in doubles and two of three six-game sets for singles. LB won all three doubles and both one and two singles for a 5-1 win.
On Friday, LB and Hidden Valley played at RC in the region semifinals. Doubles went first and the Cavaliers won two of three in hotly contested matches. LB won 8-6 at third doubles and 9-7 at second doubles while Hidden Valley won 9-8 in a tie-breaker at number one.
All six singles matches started at the same time. Number four was the first to come off the court with Hidden Valley topping LB, 6-1, 6-3. This left LB and HV tied at 2-2 overall, meaning both teams needed to win three more matches to win the overall match. Hidden Valley won at two, three and six to clinch it with numbers one and five still playing.
For the boys, LB defeated Northside at Roanoke College in the quarterfinal round. The semifinals were played at Emory & Henry and the Cavaliers lost to Abingdon, 5-2.
Region 3D singles matches are scheduled to begin Thursday morning at Virginia Tech.
