The Lord Botetourt tennis teams took on strong Salem counterparts Monday and the Spartans came away with two wins. The Salem girls won 7-2 at Hollins University and the Salem boys took an 8-1 win at Salem High.
With the loss the LB girls are 2-1 after three matches. They opened the season with a 6-3 win over Christiansburg, winning three through six singles and second and third doubles. Kadence Overstreet won 8-1 at third singles and Raimee Sykes won 8-0 at four.
On Thursday of last week the girls played host to Bassett and took a 7-2 win over the Bengals. LB was up 4-2 after singles as Reagan Meade and Zoe Brown won at numbers one and two. LB then swept the doubles.
“I was very proud of our girls for sweeping doubles,” said coach Sam Belcher. “We’ve been changing up who is playing in the top three doubles teams and the girls have done a great job adjusting.”
On Monday the girls played a strong Salem team and lost on a cold and windy day. Botetourt’s points came from Kennedy Dorsey at number five singles and Emmy Sprouse at six.
The boys played two matches week, falling 9-0 to Christiansburg and then 8-1 at Salem. The doubles team of Tyler McCarren and Payten Arnold got LB’s point.
The boys are at Hollins today to host Rockbridge and the girls will return to the courts on Friday when they return the trip to Bassett. Then both teams are off next week for spring break.
