The Lord Botetourt track team competed in the Mike Brown Invitational on Saturday, April 22, hosted by Rockbridge High School. The athletes did great on a rainy day as the boys took second and the girls were third.
Max Burke had a big day for the LB boys, winning three events. Max won both hurdles races and also finished first in the high jump.
Adrian Taylor won the 100 dash with Ethan Clower taking second. Other second place finishes included Connor Hayes in the 800, Max Klimczak in the 1600 and Cory Bess in the 3200. Damion West was third in the triple jump.
Botetourt placed in three relays. The 4×100 team of Taylor, Clower, West and Tanner Kenny took second. Thirds went to the 4×400 team of Maquan Calenger, Ethan Webster, Noah Smith and Austin Sarver as well as the 4×800 team of Nikhil Hajra, Quentin Ford, Sarver and Ethan Webster.
The girls took four individual first places, including two by Reyna Petry. She won both the 100 and 300 hurdles with LB’s Carmen Petry finishing second in both events. Reyna also took third in the long jump.
Haley Caldwell won the 3200 meters, while Holly Acker was third in that event. Erin Kline took the high jump and Haley Saunders was runner-up. Kaitlyn Arney was second in the 100-meter dash.
LB has a home meet scheduled for today and is entered in the Blacksburg Invitational on Saturday.
The James River track team will host five schools today in a track meet in Springwood. Floyd County, Auburn, Radford, Giles and Covington are all scheduled to run on the River oval.
The Knights competed in the Joe Curcio Invitational at Liberty University last Saturday, but the meet was halted by rain before conclusion. The River 4×800 girls team took a third with Abigail Link, Emma Butler, Tessa Jones and Grace Montgomery.
The Knights are scheduled to run in the Blacksburg Invitational this Saturday.
