The Lord Botetourt volleyball team is tied for first place in the Blue Ridge District with the district tournament set to begin next Tuesday, Oct. 28.
LB and Franklin County are both 7-1 in district play coming into the week. The Cavaliers should win out, as they were scheduled to play at William Fleming Tuesday and the Colonels have not won a district game. Botetourt is at Northside Thursday and the Vikings have two district wins, both against Fleming.
Franklin County was at William Byrd on Tuesday will play Fleming Thursday. If they also sweep then Botetourt and the Eagles will be co-champs for the regular season. A tie-breaker would be used to determine the top-seed for next week’s Blue Ridge District tournament.
The top four teams make the tournament and Botetourt would be home Tuesday regardless of the outcome of the tie-breaker and host either William Byrd or Staunton River. They’re tied for third and play each other on Thursday. The championship will be at the highest remaining seed on Thursday, Oct. 23.
Botetourt is 12-7 overall after two wins last week. On Oct. 14 in Moneta the Cavaliers beat Staunton River in three games, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-16. Gracelynn Clark had 10 kills, Savanna Johnson had seven kills and six aces and Kennedy Fender had 33 assists.
Last Thursday in Daleville the Cavaliers beat William Byrd in four sets, three of which were decided by two points. LB won 27-25, 25-14, 24-26 and 27-25.
Ava Stephens had 13 kills and seven blocks in this one, while Clark had 11 kills and six blocks. Addison Naff also had 12 kills and Fender had 48 assists.
