Sam Pearl was all smiles Monday morning when he was showing off the trout he caught at Lake Spring Park in Salem during the 67th Annual Ernest “Pig” Robertson Fishing Rodeo—Children with Disabilities Day. He was one of the Lord Botetourt High School students who got to fish in the rodeo with the help of Avery Stevens (right), another of the school’s Botetourt Buddies. Botetourt Buddies is a special needs club that also incorporates the general student population as “buddies,” one of the club sponsors Cheryl Shockley explained. The fishing rodeo is sponsored by the Salem Kiwanis Club, the Salem Red Sox and Real Estate One along with Salem Parks & Recreation. The Children with Disabilities Day is one of three days set aside for children to fish for trout. LBHS has 17 special needs students and a total of 50 students in Botetourt Buddies.
