There were a lot of hugs and pats on the back when Lord Botetourt High School’s 237 members of the Class of 2010 received their diplomas last Wednesday at the Salem Civic Center.
A crowd of parents, grandparents, family and friends looked on as Tim Bane presented diplomas to his first senior class as principal. It was an emotional evening for the first-year principal, too. He had trouble finishing his brief remarks to the class when he told the class they were special and the class photo would always hang in his office.
Valedictorian Michael Thompson said the Class of 2010 would always be remembered for its hard work and perseverance.
Many members of the class hugged Bane or gave him a pat on the back as they took their diplomas.
School Superintendent Dr. Tony Brads presented two diplomas during the commencement—one to his daughter Keegan and a special one at the conclusion of the diploma presentations to Bane because it was his first graduating class.
