The Regional FFA Tractor Driving, Tractor Troubleshooting and Small Engines events were held at Lord Botetourt High School on September 2. The state is divided into six regions; Lord Botetourt is in the South Ridge Area Region.
LBHS FFA members Nathan Badgley and Jonah Duncan placed first in the Tractor Troubleshooting team competition. This event consists of students taking a written test, diagnosing various problems that cause a farm tractor either not to operate or to not operate properly. Once they have made their diagnosis they then have 20 minutes to make the necessary repair to ensure the tractor is operating successfully.
Raegan Carter placed second in the Small Engine Repair competition; in this competition students must complete a written exam, identify tools, look up parts, and diagnose and repair an engine.
Nathan and Jonah will move on to the state Tractor Troubleshooting competition at the State Fair of Virginia on September 24.
The FFA thanks James River Equipment for sponsoring the event.
