Lord Botetourt senior Kesean Anderson was named to the state All-Class 3 football team that was recently announced. Anderson was named to the All-State second team on the defensive line.
Liberty Christian Academy junior running back Gideon Davidson is the Class 3 Offensive Player of the Year, and Lafayette senior defensive end Peter Cook is the Class 3 Defensive Player of the Year. LCA head coach Frank Rocco is the Class 3 Coach of the Year after the Bulldogs defeated Lafayette in the Class 3 state championship game at Liberty University.
The All-State football team consists of 32 players. The offense includes one quarterback; four linemen; one center; three running backs; three receivers; one tight end; one kicker; one kick returner; one all-purpose offensive player. On defense honors are give to four defensive linemen; five linebackers; four defensive backs; one punter; one punt returner; one all-purpose defensive player. Only those players selected to the All-Region first-team are eligible for selection to the All-State team. The All-State selection committee comprises eight coaches, with two from each region.
Anderson was also selected to the All-Region 3D first team on defense. Other first team All-Eegion selections from LB include Cade Lang and Jakari Nicely, both at defensive back. On offense, DJ Toliver made first team on the line and Tristan Overbay was a first team selection at running back.
Second team All-Region players from LB were Jackson Harless at center, Nicely at all-purpose on offense, Ben Gilbert at linebacker and Cody McConnaughey at all-purpose on defense. Honorable mention went to Dean Webb at kicker and punter, Gavin Walker on the offensive line, Kendal Howard on the defensive line and Sam Grooten at defensive back.
On the All-Blue Ridge District team, first team honors went to Harless at center, Toliver and Walker on the offensive line, Overbay at running back and Nicely at all-purpose on offense. On defense, first team All-BRD went to Anderson on the defensive line, McConnaughey at linebacker and Lang and Nicely in the secondary.
Second team All-District Cavs are Howard on the defensive line and Gilbert at linebacker.
