The Friends of the Buchanan Library invites everyone to come meet and listen to author Peggy Shifflett, Ph.D., at the Buchanan Library on Tuesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Shifflett will be discussing her book, “Red Flannel Rag,” an autobiographical book about growing up in Hopkins Gap, Va.
“Red Flannel Rag” is about the lives and customs of her family and neighbors in a remote rural area of Virginia. Learn about moonshining, hog butchering, living by the signs, and many other customs that people lived by in the mountainous town of Hopkins Gap. Dr. Shifflett is a retired professor from Radford University and now lives in Salem.
