Supervisor urges residents to help update the comprehensive plan

Botetourt County needs your help to update our comprehensive plan. Envision Botetourt 2040 sets goals for a variety of planning areas, including transportation, economic development, housing, and future land use.

This is where you come in. Simply put, this is your plan, and we want you to get involved. The five surveys focus on:

  • Recreation
  • Community Facilities
  • Transportation
  • 8Housing
  • Future Land Use

The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors and Botetourt County administration value your feedback. So, when we heard that some members of our community were having difficulty accessing the survey, we knew that we had to help. I know that sometimes surveys can be confusing and our Internet speeds in our home might not allow us to easily access online documents. To make sure that everyone has a chance to share their thoughts, we are extending the survey deadline to Monday, June 30. I will also be at the Buchanan Library on the following dates to chat with our citizens and help walk them through the surveys if they need some extra help:

  • Monday, June 13, 8 a.m.-10 a.m.
  • Tuesday, June 21, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 30, 12 p.m.-2 p.m.

We hope this will allow everyone in our community to join the conversation and let their voices be heard as we begin to plan for the future of our beloved county.

If you have access to the Internet, you can find the surveys online at the Botetourt County website: www.botetourtva.gov/comprehensiveplan. The survey is available for users utilizing a desktop or mobile device like your cell phone or iPad.

If you can’t make it out to the Buchanan library, all of our helpful librarians at all of our branches are ready to help you navigate the surveys. Our Community Development Department is also ready to help! You can email them at planning@botetourtva.gov or call (540) 928-2080. You can also stop by to visit with a member of the planning team.  Give them a call to schedule an appointment.

The future of Botetourt County belongs to all of us. Thank you for taking the time to help us make important decisions that will continue to make our county the best place to live work, worship and play in the Commonwealth.

Amy White

Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, Buchanan District
