The movie “Grease” is a favorite in our household.
Our daughter Olivia is named after Olivia Newton-John, one of the main stars in the movie. She loves the character “Frenchie.”
Well, recently we got the chance to go see Frenchie. We support our small town when we can.
We have our own trials at times with Olivia’s medical issues. She has a terminal illness and was diagnosed at age 3 with Fanconi anemia, a rare blood disorder that prevents your bone marrow from making enough new blood cells for your body to work normally. FA requires a bone marrow transplant at some point and brings with it many types of cancer.
There are many other complications not visible on the outside. So many people think she’s cured, but she’s not. She faces challenges daily. We make at least two trips a year to her doctors in Cincinnati.
There is no cure for this disease. We do what we can. It’ s the best we can do. She is a strong-willed little girl. She has a heart of gold and the sass to go with it.
Thank you, Buchanan Theatre, for making this a night to remember for our little “pink lady”.
