Youth With Character Academy students visit Brian Center residents

We at the Brian Center would like to extend a big Thank You to Wanda Martin and all of the rising sixth graders associated with the Botetourt County Youth With Character Academy.
On Thursday, July 11, these students came out and gave an hour of time to play and also to call several games of Bingo with our residents. This was a real treat for us and the beaming smiles on our faces serve as proof positive of the benefits of community involvement. Thanks again to the Character Academy for their shining example.

The Lord Botetourt High School golf team held their 15th Annual Golf Tournament at Botetourt Golf and Swim Club on July 12. We would like to thank all of the people and companies that made our tournament a success.
Special thanks for the hole sponsors that have supported us for all 15 years. They are Lanford Brothers, Grand Storage of Vinton, Bank of Botetourt and The Bank of Fincastle. Our hole sponsors were: Affordable Mini Storage, Dairy Queen – Orange Avenue, Kennard-Pace Co., Mac and Bob’s, John Alderson Agency, the Pennington Family, Old Dominion Auto Salvage, Lesley Owens – State Farm, Advanced Transportation and Logistics, Advanced Disposal, Crouch Insurance Services, Awful Arthurs, Affordable Asphalt Sealing, Roanoke Valley Cleaning Team (RVCT), Applebee’s of Bonsack, Todd Selkirk – State Farm, Jersey Lily’s – Orange Avenue, Martin’s Bar and Grill, Cleaning Equipment and Services, Randy Barnard, Rodney Spickard, New York Pizza, Botetourt Veterinary Hospital, Wolf’s Den Billiards, Papa D’s, Roanoke Valley Orthodontics, and Fork In The Market. Tournament winners were the team of Jed Rasnick, Marcus Phelps, Dick Bailey and Ross Wimmer. A special recognition to Dickie Smith, who has come from Florida the past four years to play in our tournament.
Many of the local restaurants and businesses donated gift cards for prizes. Almost all of the area golf courses donated rounds of golf for prizes. Much thanks to Corey Woodring, Jeff Sprinkle and the staff of Botetourt Golf and Swim Club for all of their assistance. Thanks also to Don Sutliff, JoJo Sutliff and Molly Milliner for providing us with a wonderful meal after a hot day on the course. A special thanks to Don Hines for organizing the tournament and making it successful. Thanks to Deb Rasnick for running the registration table and organizing all of the prizes. Thanks to all of the parents who made all of the desserts and came and helped out.
Everyone who played had a beautiful day at Botetourt Golf and Swim Club. Everyone also received an additional round of golf, a nice door prize and dinner. We hope to see everyone again next year!
