Town of Buchanan staff members will deliver Easter eggs to kids April 9
Editor:
The town’s annual Easter egg hunt was cancelled due to COVID-19. On Thursday, April 9, the Town of Buchanan staff will accompany the Easter Bunny to children who are residents in the town limits to deliver Easter eggs! We have around 200 eggs to deliver!
Anyone in town limits with kids can email jpetty@buchanan-va.gov or call Jenny Petty at 540-254-1212, Ext. 1. We just need the address and how many kids reside at the property! Because of the social distancing requirements, we will be going to one house at a time and taking precautions to wipe things down after each visit!
Let us know if you would like a visit by Wednesday April 8, at 4 p.m., so we can plan accordingly.

The next blood drive is tomorrow, April 9
Editor:
The Bloodmobile will be at the Fincastle United Methodist Church Family Life Center from 12 noon until 6 p.m. Thursday, April 9.
The blood drive is considered an essential service during this pandemic. The Red Cross has assured us that they are taking every precaution to protect to the extent possible all donors, volunteers and Red Cross staff. However, the decision to attend this blood drive remains a decision that must be made by each individual considering all factors including possible prior exposure, current health, age and all underlying health issues. If you choose to come, thank you. The collection is very poor due to this pandemic and the need continues to rise. If you choose not to come, we understand and respect your decision.

Planting the seeds of tomorrow today
Editor:
Over the past year we have witnessed the best of “small town America” in action as Buchanan prepared its annual Calendar of Events. Behind the scenes, volunteers worked together with the town to coordinate a full Calendar of Events. While the coronavirus has forced us to cancel several large activities, we have found ways in which some of our smaller events can be modified to meet safety guidelines.
Buchanan’s Arbor Day is one of these activities. While our formal celebration could not be held, the spirit was strong to continue the tradition, and we found a way to plant the seeds of tomorrow today.
Buchanan is blessed by the generous outpouring of the community. From beginning to end, residents, civic organizations and volunteers pooled their time, talents and resources to raise money to purchase trees, an effort we all can be proud of. The recent explosion of cherry trees, shade trees and dogwoods are a testimony to previous years’ hard work. This year’s tree planting will add to future spring and fall spectacle of color, provide food and shelter for wildlife and help reduce erosion in to the James River.
On behalf of the Town of Buchanan, I wish to give a heartfelt “thank you” to each and every individual and group for your contributions to this year’s event. We are humbled by your dedication and generosity to make Buchanan a better place to live, visit and do business. It is truly a privilege to work with you.
Special thanks those who contributed funds to this year’s tree planning, including the Virginia Department of Forestry Trees for Clean Water Grant, Dot Carson, Will and Shirley Stinnett, Della Hylton, Len Miller, Catherine Watts, Lawrence and Eva Vines, Thomas Middlecamp, the Buchanan Town Improvement Society, Molly O’Dell, Mike and Judy Jordan, Geneva Jenkins, Larry and Jo Eggers, Michelle Crook, Pam Wiegandt, Ann Layman, Doug and Julia Demming, Steve and Susan Davis, Kurt and Amparo Kunze, John and Genevieve Goss, the Botetourt County Town and Country Women’s Club, Harry and Robyn Brand, the Mountain Castles SWCD, Theresa Underwood, Peggy Davis and Norma Wells.
A final word of thanks to the volunteers who will help plant trees over the next two weeks, we appreciate your support.
If you would like to make a donation to future plantings of trees and flowers, please call the Buchanan Town Hall at 254-1212.
