Disabled veteran thanks fishing event volunteers
Editor:
Many disabled veterans owe a BIG THANK YOU to the Botetourt Longbeards, part of the National Wild Turkey Association, to Buchanan Moose Lodge 2182 and to Steve Thrasher.
They provided a beautiful event on Saturday, May 15. Several veterans had not fished in several years. Thanks to the volunteers helping the vets who were fishing from wheelchairs. Their help was outstanding. Great appreciation when you receive help on tasks you can’t do any longer.
The fish were plentiful and if you chose the volunteers would clean and cook them. Rick Siler is a great cook. The fish were delicious. If you didn’t choose to eat your catch, great food prepared by the Buchanan Moose members was available
Thank you, and as a disabled veteran, it was a thrill to attend events like that. From an avid fisherman before becoming disabled, when I caught the first trout, I had goose bumps. I was trying to take a picture and it flipped off, but thanks to a quick youngster helping me, he got my fish before it got into water.
