Weddle thanks voters
Editor:
Thank you to the voters of the Amsterdam District for choosing me to represent you on the School Board another four years. The right to vote is of great importance and I know you did not enter into your decision lightly. I promise to remain dedicated to supporting all students and staff of Botetourt County Public Schools. I am always available to listen to any community member’s thoughts and can be reached by phone or email.
Thank you to my friends and family that sacrificed hours of their day to work the polls on Election Day. Special thanks to Sam Reynolds (age 9) for making me a sandwich and Grace Hoover (age 9) for tirelessly canvassing her neighborhood – several times. You two are fine examples of our BCPS students, and part of my “why” for serving on the School Board.
I look forward to continuing Botetourt’s excellence and developing our amazing future by continuing to build relationships with students, teachers, administrators, community partners and the Board of Supervisors. Thank you, Amsterdam!

Disappointed in infrastructure bill votes
Editor:
I was surprised to see a small sign of bipartisanship in the passage of the “traditional infrastructure bill” by the U.S. House on November 5. Without the support of a baker’s dozen of GOP representatives, the bill would have failed. I understand the clear divide in opinions over the more costly “Build Back Better” proposal, but the elements of the bipartisan bill seemed to enjoy strong support from all but the most fringe elements of left and right.
I must confess disappointment to see that not one of our GOP representatives from Virginia was willing to step up with a “yes” vote. For my neighbors who are truly disinterested in improvements to roads, bridges, broadband, etc., then I suppose you are happy with your current representation. The rest of us should pay careful attention to Rep. Cline’s slick reasons that he will surely give for standing against all of these things.

Now that the election fervor has died down, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for ALL who participated in last week’s voting – voters and candidates alike. And a very special thank you to the Buchanan residents who supported my candidacy for the Board of Supervisors.
As you know, my campaign began early this spring, and I am honored to have enjoyed support from many of you throughout the entire campaign season. It was such a pleasure talking to so many citizens and making lots of new friends. I am absolutely honored to be your elected representative; that is a title that I will not hold lightly.
Many thanks to all of you who helped support my campaign, both personally and financially. These activities included everything from making campaign materials to financial donations to putting up signs and managing the many public facets of the campaign itself. I surely could not have done this alone and I am thankful that I did not have to!
I also want to congratulate the other winners of the election on Tuesday. I have learned how much commitment it takes to campaign and to serve, and I appreciate the work that each of you put into our community.
For me, it is now time to focus on the local issues that involve Botetourt County and especially the district of Buchanan. Over the past year I heard concerns from many of you, and I hope you will continue to reach out to me to talk about the issues that are meaningful to you. This election was very emotional for many people, and the high voter turnout was indicative of the strong feelings that many of us have. Because there are so many strong feelings right now, I would like to again ask for your support. In my opinion, it is vital that we come together as one voice to ensure that our communities thrive and that our citizens are supported. We do not always have to agree on each issue, but we should always talk. And we should talk to each other, not about each other.
Please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns that you want to discuss. I promise to work hard to represent all the citizens of Buchanan, and I will need the support of everyone to do this. I challenge us all to work together to make Buchanan and Botetourt County the very best that it can be. I believe that we have an amazing community with great potential, and I am certain that if we work together, we will impact positive change and be able to confront any issues that may arise. I am here to serve you, the citizens, and I will do this with optimism, commitment, humility, and a genuine sense of community. Thank you for this opportunity.
