Lewis Edward McClung, 73, formerly of Eagle Rock, passed away at his home in Salem following a resurgence of an extended illness.

Lewis was born in Eagle Rock, living there most of his life before moving to Salem about eight years ago.  He was the son of the late Carl W. and Mary J. Hipes McClung.

Lewis was an electrician for Lone Star Cement for 25 years and served in The United States Army during the Vietnam Era, where he was exposed to Agent Orange which led to his diagnosis of cancer. He owned and operated McClung’s Market Subway in Eagle Rock and Cavalier Market in Daleville for several years.

In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Edward “Joey” McClung, and is survived by his wife, Rita Stingley McClung; two grandsons whom he dearly loved, Cody Edward McClung and Masen Carl McClung; his brother, Larry McClung; sister Vicky Raynor; sisters-in-law, Barbara Burks and Ginger Stingley; nephew, Phillip Burks; nieces: Debbie Aaron, Tina McCune, April Howard, Ann Frazier, Danielle Johnson, and Megan Johnson.

Rita and family extend a special “thanks” to Kindred Hospice: Karen Kessler, Chaplain Steve, and special nurse Lila Poff, RN.  Your kindness will never be forgotten. God bless you for caring.

Due to the current pandemic, Lewis wanted no service or fuss. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.rader-funeralhome.com.
