Have you met Angie Veldhuizen? Angie is a full-time library assistant at the Buchanan branch and has been working for the Botetourt County Libraries for almost three years now. You can often find her behind the circulation desk, where she greets patrons, checks out and discharges materials, answers the phone, and assists however she can. Angie also organizes and leads the Family Story Time held on Tuesday mornings, where she reads to and makes crafts with children of all ages. Angie is soft-spoken and kindhearted, making patrons feel comfortable to come to her for help. No matter what Angie is working on, she is sure to be doing it with a smile on her face!
Before working for the Botetourt County Libraries, Angie held a variety of jobs in areas such as sales, retail, and cleaning. Her first experience working in libraries was years ago, when she had a part-time job at the Glasgow Library in Rockbridge County. Angie expressed her views on working in libraries by saying,” I wanted to work in the library because I have always loved libraries! I love the atmosphere. I relax immediately when I visit a library. It is so fun to explore the stacks and check out a ton of interesting stuff.” Angie would like to thank her Aunt Eva, who told her about the job opening at the Buchanan branch and encouraged her to apply.
Angie really enjoys working at the Buchanan branch. She is happy to be in the library and to have the opportunity to interact with local people and be part of the community. When asked, Angie replied, “What do I love about Buchanan Library? The patrons. Our patrons are so kind and thoughtful. We are spoiled rotten! Our patrons really care about each other and our community. I have seen such generosity and compassion while working at Buchanan Library.” Angie also enjoys working with and doing programs for children and babies. She thinks her coworkers are great, as well, and is proud to be part of such a great team.
Angie is originally from Buchanan, but has also lived in Indiana and Texas before returning to her hometown. She says that her favorite thing about Botetourt is “All my family is here! After living away from for Virginia for many years, this is the best part of Botetourt for me. I have four wonderful children, two loving and supportive parents, three complicated dogs, seven strong willed cats, and a LARGE extended family. I love them all dearly and they fill my life with joy!” Angie says she does not have much spare time, but she reads when she can. She doesn’t have a favorite genre, but will read whatever captures her interest. Her favorite authors include James Herriot, John R. Erickson, and M.C. Beaton. Angie looks forward to meeting you, so stop by the Buchanan branch and say “Hello” soon!
