UPCOMING LIBRARY EVENTS SCHEDULE:

Ginger Gungas: A Community Cookbook Celebration

Wednesday, December 7, 10:30am-noon, Buchanan Library

Many years ago, an elderly woman who lived in a log cabin by the Wilson Warehouse in Buchanan made her living by selling coffee and ginger cakes – known locally as “Ginger Gungas” – to stagecoach and packet boat travelers. In 1981, the Town Improvement Society included her recipe in a compilation of favorite recipes from local cooks.

Where can you find that cookbook? At the Buchanan Library! The re-discovery of this out-of-print gem has sparked a wave of memories from our Buchanan residents. As people browse the cookbook, they exclaim over names they’d forgotten, share memories of the cooks and food, and copy recipes they want to try at home. Check it out – how many local cooks do you recognize?

It’s been such a hit that the Buchanan Library will host a special celebration. Join us for our Ginger Gungas potluck on December 7th. Special thanks to Tammie’s Place for baking the original Ginger Gungas recipe for everyone to sample! We invite everyone to choose a recipe from the 1981 cookbook and bring it to the event, but if you can’t bring a dish, you’re still welcome! Share great food and sweet memories with your neighbors at this cookbook celebration.

Holiday Craft Fair

Saturday, December 3, 10am-2pm, Eagle Rock Library

The craft fair is back! Hosted by the Friends of the Eagle Rock Library, this fair is a fantastic opportunity to shop local for the holidays. Proceeds from table rentals benefit library programs and projects, and the rest supports our talented vendors.

Holiday Tree Lightings

Monday, December 5, 6-7:30pm, Eagle Rock Library

Tuesday, December 6, 6-7:30pm, Blue Ridge Library

For those of you who braved the cold outdoor festivities during the COVID wave, we’re finally celebrating indoors again! Bring the whole family to enjoy crafts, games, and live piano music while you chat with neighbors. The Eagle Rock Elementary School Choir will perform at the Eagle Rock Library, and the Colonial Elementary School Choir will perform at the Blue Ridge Library. You don’t want to miss these talented young singers! Meet and take pictures with Santa before the 7:00pm tree lighting. Special thanks to the Friends of the Library for sponsoring cocoa, coffee and cookies.
