Library Buzz for Oct. 3 edition

Did you know…

Every library branch offers free notary services! Staff notaries have varied availability, so please make an appointment ahead of time. Bring with you: unsigned paperwork; anyone else who needs to sign it; your current, valid photo ID; and a witness(es), if required.

 

Libraries Closed: Columbus Day

Spooky Storytelling

Sat, Oct 28, 6-9pm, Troutville Town Park (or YMCA if bad weather)

Great for families! Enjoy spooky stories, bounce house, Halloween games, face painting, pumpkin painting, and more. Food trucks will be onsite, and school-age children get free hot dogs and hamburgers from Kiwanis Club of Botetourt. Kid-friendly storytelling begins at 6:00pm, with Victoria Town, Joelle Shenk, and Al Chewing. At 8:00pm, Kim Weitkamp will tell extra-scary stories for adults (if you let the kids stay, you have been warned).

 

Financial Fitness

Thu, Oct 5, 6-7pm, Fincastle

Join Josh Walton from Valley Medicare Solutions to learn basic strategies for how to budget, save, reduce debt, manage credit, invest well, and protect your financial future.

 

Beekeeping

Wed, Oct 11, 6-7pm, Blue Ridge

Learn about beekeeping, products made by bees, and the important role bees play as pollinators in gardens and agriculture. Presented by Julie Baker of Blue Hive Apiary.

 

Senior Bingo

Thu, Oct 12, 11am-12pm, Eagle Rock

Join this fun social activity! Provided in partnership with Botetourt County Parks & Recreation. Recommended for seniors.

 

Your Historic Property and How to Save It

Do you have a historic house, barn, or other structure? Mike Pulice from the Department of Historic Resources will discuss how property owners can preserve structures, what resources are available, incentives for preservation, and how to begin the process.

 

Life of Sorrow: The Life and Times of Carter Stanley

Gary Reid will present a one-man performance with storytelling and music to bring to the life the saga of an Appalachian mountain music treasure.
