Dharmendra Patel, the owner of Eagle Rock Grab n Go, Quickette Food Mart, and Happy Food Mart recently pledged to donate 5 cents of every gallon of gas sold during the months of April, May, and June to organizations fighting COVID-19.
“We wanted to reach out to the community to see how we could help because we’re a local business,” Patel said of how the idea came about.
The first donation occurred on May 1. A portion of the profits from April, a little more than $4,400, was donated to the Botetourt County Fire & EMS Department. He said that additional money will go to the department this month and next month, but that if additional organizations can be helped, he hopes to do so.
In total, Patel owns eight stores in and around Botetourt County.
“This is the least we can do,” he said.
