The Botetourt County Food Pantry and the Botetourt County Social Services Emergency Fuel Fund will benefit from a free concert this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Attic Productions Theater, just south of Fincastle on US 220.
The long-running and prolific Lonesome River Band will bring its repretoir of bluegrass music to the D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Center stage for the annual Twelfth Night Charity Concert.
While the concert is free, admission tickets are required due to limited seating. Patrons are asked to bring voluntary contributions of food and money for the two benefitting charities.
The Food Pantry gives food to needy families, and the Emergency Fuel Fund assists economically depressed families and individuals having difficulty paying utility bills.
Lonesome River Band is one of the most respected names in bluegrass music. It is led by Sammy Shelor, a five-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Banjo Player of the Year and a member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame.
Shelor is joined by two stellar lead vocalists, Brandon Rickman (guitar) and Jesse Smathers (mandolin). Mike Hartgrove (fiddle) and Barry Reed (bass) round out the lineup.
Over a period of 34 years, Lonesome River Band has released 18 albums and has appeared at the top bluegrass and country venues throughout the United States. It has received numerous association awards, including Bluegrass Band of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
The concert is organized and produced by volunteers from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the local community.
