Bettie Lou (Heck) Looney, 89, of Troutville, went to be with her Lord on May 20, 2024, following a period of poor health.
Born January 1, 1935, in Botetourt County, she was a daughter of the late Howard B. Heck and Bessie (Wade) Heck.
Bettie was a graduate of Fincastle High School where she was a star basketball player. Prior to her retirement she was employed in the accounting departments of Colonial American Bank in Roanoke and Heironimus Department Store in Salem,.
Bettie was a devoted wife and mother and a kind, compassionate caregiver to several family members in their declining years. She enjoyed flower gardening, working with numbers, and watching old westerns on TV. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Looney; two brothers, Rodney Heck and Donald Heck; and two sisters, Janice Heck Gore and Dorothy Heck Crews.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Looney Bane and husband Thomas of Canton, N.C., and Carol Looney Brown and husband Robert Brown of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Betsy Janella Bane (Houston, Texdas); two sisters, Nancy Heck Cash (Covington), Jo Ann Heck Jayne (Hillsboro, Va.); and a brother, Howard Heck, Jr. (Fincastle.
In honor of Bettie’s wishes, a private family graveside service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, officiated by A.C. Hollins, Jr. Arrangements were by Rader Funeral Home, Daleville.
