Lord Botetourt baseball game with Hidden Valley is suspended

Cameron Bailey (11) and Ethan Taylor (5) converge on a pop up for LB.

The Lord Botetourt baseball team was in the midst of a slugfest with Hidden Valley Monday night when it got too dark to play. The Roanoke County diamond does not have lights so the game was suspended with the score tied at 11-11 in the top of the sixth inning.

“We got out of a bases-loaded jam with one out to keep the game going,” said LB coach Todd Smith.

Monday’s game was a non-district affair for the Cavaliers, but LB has three district games also scheduled in a busy week. The Cavs were scheduled to play at William Byrd on Tuesday, they go to Staunton River Thursday, and on Friday William Fleming comes to Daleville.

Pending Monday’s outcome the Cavaliers were 9-6 overall prior to the Byrd game and 3-2 in Blue Ridge District play. Last Friday at home they slaughter-ruled Staunton River, 12-2, behind a solid mound performance by Garrett Lonker. He went five innings and struck out 10 Eagles.

All nine starters had at least one hit for the Cavaliers, who had 17 hits in the game. Brady Kish was four-for-four, Lonker had two doubles, Cameron Bailey and Ethan Taylor had two hits each and Isaac Nichols and Noah Donaho both blasted home runs.

“It was a big time game against a very good opponent and our guys stepped up to the challenge,” said Smith. “It was a good offensive day.”
