Christiansburg High School was the site of the Blue Demon Invitational track meet last Saturday as local teams prepare for district and region tournament. The Demons hosted 21 schools at Saturday’s meet, including Lord Botetourt boys and James River boys and girls.
For James River, Gavin Binns finished fourth in the 100 meters and the Knights’ 4×800 team also finished fourth. That consisted of Austen Myers, Aiden Bartulis, Braden Jones and Mark Voight.
For the girls, Drew Whitson was sixth in the 1,600 while running a state qualifying time. Emma Bobbitt was fifth in the shot put.
Lord Botetourt’s boys competed in the meet and TJ McGinnis was second in the 100. Ethan Thorne was sixth in the 800 and LB’s 4×100 relay team won the event in 43.95.
The LB girls competed in a meet at William Byrd last Thursday and took second. Both the girls and boys hosted the last regular season meet at LB Monday.
James River is scheduled to host a five-team meet today, but the weather could force that to be cancelled. The Region 2C meet is scheduled for Glenvar High on May 23rd.
The Blue Ridge District track meet was scheduled for Tuesday but weather at press time had that in jeopardy. The Region 3D meet is scheduled for May 23 at Abingdon High.
