Lord Botetourt boys win Region 3D track championship

Lord Botetourt scored 146 points to defeat second place Abingdon by 45 ½ points and win the Region 3D track championship in Christiansburg last week. The host Blue Demons won the girls championship with Lord Botetourt taking fifth.

The top four in each event will advance to this Friday’s Class 3 state meet at Liberty University. Field events start at 9 a.m. with the running events beginning at noon.

Regional champions for the boys included Jacob Hodnett with a time of 23.05 in the 200-meter dash and a time of 51.18 in the 400 meters. Bryson Cook won the 800 in 2:00.99 while Jeremiah Emmons-May won the 110 hurdles in 16.09.

Seconds went to Joey Isaacs in the 100, Dylan Knick in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Sam Francis in the discus, Dmetri Toliver in the shot put and Emmons-Mayo and Cade Lang tied for second in the long jump.

Isaacs was third in the 200 and fourth places went to Jonah Clark in the 110 hurdles and Lang in the 300 hurdles. The top four in each event all qualified for the state meet.

Botetourt’s 4×100 relay team of Knick, Zion Woody, Isaacs, Evan Overbay and Daylon Compton was third while the 4×400 relay of Cook, Carter Hudson, Cole Stelter, Hodnett, Rye Jackson and Jack McDaniel took fourth. The 4×800 tam of Carter Hudson, Evan Poff, Jackson, Evan Gates and Andres Hernandez also took fourth.

For the girls, second places went to Lauren Duff in the 400, Sydney Vokus in the 3200 and Madie Malue in the 100 hurdles. Vokus was also third in the 1600 while Brooklyn Hornback took third in the 400 and Nicole Paquette was third in the 300 hurdles. Katie Cross was fourth in the 800.

Botetourt’s 4×800 relay team of Duff, Sofia Hernandez, Brielle Jackson, Hornback and Anna Hoover won the region with a time of 10:44.72 and the 4×400 team of Duff, Hernandez, Jackson, Hornback and Cross took second place.
