First place in the Blue Ridge District will be on the line this week when Lord Botetourt and Franklin County go head-to-head in girls soccer– twice! The two were scheduled to play in Rocky Mount on Tuesday and they’ll meet again in Daleville Friday.
Both teams come into the week at 4-0 in district games. The Cavaliers improved to 4-0 in the BRD with two district wins last week over William Fleming and Northside. Against Fleming, LB won 10-0 as Karis Hambrick had a three-goal hat trick and Emma Rice and Bria Harvey had two goals each.
On Friday at home the girls shut out Northside, 8-0. Rice had three goals, Harvey had two and Cailey Petrauskas, Autumn Estrada and Janey Farrar had one each.
LB also had two non-district wins in the past week against quality Class 4 opponents. Last Thursday at home the girls edged Salem in a shootout, 4-3. This game was tied 3-3 at the half before Rice scored her second goal of the night in the second half for what proved to be the difference. Katherine Woodward had the first goal for LB and Harvey headed in a corner kick.
On Monday at home the girls ran their winning streak to six straight game with a 3-2 win over E.C. Glass. Petrauskas opened the scoring off an assist from Harvey and Rice had the other two goals, one unassisted and the other off an Ella Fletcher assist.
Monday’s win lifted LB to 7-3 overall.
