Lord Botetourt and James River will send teams to Roanoke this weekend for the annual Cosmopolitan Club Track Meet. The three-day meet is held at William Fleming High School.
The middle school field events and running trials will be Thursday. Junior Division athletes, in ninth and 10 grades, will have field events Friday at Fleming along with trials and some senior running trials. Senior field events, for juniors and seniors, will be Saturday morning and all running finals, for all three classes, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Both LB and River competed in the Titan Track Classic at Hidden Valley High School last Saturday. The Blacksburg girls and Salem boys won team championships while LB’s boys were third and the girls were 10th. River’s girls took sixth and the boys were 16th among 18 schools at the meet.
For LB, Kendal Howard broke his own school record in the discus with a winning toss of 176’ 9” and he also won the shot put at 47’8”. TJ McGinnis won the 100 meters in 11.07 and Ethan Thorne was third in the 1,600 and sixth in the 800. Caleb Miller was second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. The LB 4×100 relay team was second.
For the girls, Alina Toliver was second in the discus with a toss of 99’4”. Anne Thorne was third in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600. Jillian Harris was seventh in the 100 hurdles and eighth in the triple jump.
For James River, Emma Bobbit won the discus at 101’6” and took fourth in the shot put. Kaia Binns was third in the 100 and ran on the sixth place 4×100 relay team with Navaeh VanBuren, Alise Orent and Kelsey Firebaugh. VanBuren also took second in the triple jump and third in the discus while Drew Whitson was sixth in the 800 and seventh in the 1,600.
For the boys, Jayden Alston was fifth in the shot put. The 4×800 relay team of Aiden Bartulis, Brayden Jones, Silas Miller and Austen Myers was sixth.
