The Lord Botetourt girls scored early and often and held on for a 10-5 softball win over Franklin County last Friday. The win was the Blue Ridge District opener for the Cavs.
Lord Botetourt put a crooked four on the board in the bottom of the first and pitcher Rhyann Jones made that hold up. Jones also came up big at the plate with two singles and a sixth inning home run. Jones scored five runs for the Cavaliers.
Riley Shupe also had a good day at the plate with a big double and a stolen base. The Cavaliers had eight hits in the game.
“It was a great feeling for us to come out and get our first district win of the season,” said coach Megan DeHart. “ I am extremely proud and honored to watch this team grow together and want to do well for each other.”
The Cavaliers improved to 4-1 overall Monday with a 2-1 non-district win at Blacksburg. The girls were scheduled to play at home against William Byrd on Tuesday, and on Thursday the Cavaliers are at Northside.
