The Lord Botetourt cross country team had a busy time last week as the Cavaliers ran in races in Salem and at Northside High School. The Salem race was at Municipal Golf Course.

“Salem was a great day,” said coach Elizabeth Edmonds. “We ran it as a workout, but they produced some great times. The course is fast, so we love it every year.”

Eric Duncan led the race with a time of 16:45. John Moughrabi was 11th place with 19:14 followed by Nathan Moser and Archer Lee in 14th and 15th place. Joel Butler rounded out the top five, coming in 16th place with a time of 20:00. The boys team finished second at the meet.

Madeleine Gantzhorn was the top female runner, finishing 5th overall with a time of 23:55. Addison Purser was close behind, finishing in 7th place with a time of 24:29. Ember Wiley and Maddie Moore finished 14th and 16th. The girls team finished third at the meet.

On Saturday the Cavaliers ran at Northside.

“With our schedule not having any off weekends, we have used many races as workouts, so Northside was another workout in preparation for the Virginia Showcase this coming weekend,” said Edmonds.

Duncan won the race and set a new course record with a time of 17:09. Lee also medaled for the team, finishing in 13th place with a time of 20:12. Moser, Joel Butler, and Garrett Sutton rounded out the top 5 for the team. The boys team finished 4th at the meet.

Gantzhorn led the girls team, securing a medal with an 11th place finish, She ran a time of 25:04. Wiley was close behind her, finishing in 18th place at 26:37.
