The Lord Botetourt girls took a win over Salem in new coach Megan DeHart’s head coaching debut last week, routing the Spartans 10-1 at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem.
“Our bats really just came alive in this game,” said DeHart. “We were able to score in almost every inning. I was really proud of the high energy the girls kept in innings one through seven.”
Gianna Sloan-Lebron hit her first home run of the season and Rhyann Jones went the distance in the circle for the Cavs.
On Friday the girls had their home opener and dropped a 2-0 game to Blacksburg. Maddie Carroll was two for three at the plate for LB but the Cavs couldn’t push across a run. The Bruins scored twice in the top of the sixth for the only two runs of the game.
“This was a tough one to swallow with it being our home opener for the season,” said DeHart. “Our hitting struggled and Blacksburg ended up scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning.”
The girls are back in action today, Wednesday, with a game at Cave Spring. On Thursday they host Salem in their final game before spring break.
