The Lord Botetourt girls will host Blue Ridge District rival Northside in a Region 3D tournament game tonight, Wednesday, with the winner guaranteed a spot in the state softball tournament.
Tonight’s winner will have a region home game Friday, and both region finalists make the state tournament. The Region 3D winner will host the Region 3C runner-up next Tuesday, with the Region 3D runner-up headed to the home of the Region 3C winner on Tuesday.
Lord Botetourt comes into tonight’s game with an 18-4 overall record and riding high after shutting out Abingdon in a region quarterfinal game Monday. The Cavaliers won 6-0 as Rhyann Jones pitched a two-hit shutout and had two hits at bat for LB. She struck out eight and walked none while being backed by errorless defense. The shutout was the fourth in a row by LB.
“I believe we are peaking at the right time and I am thrilled to see us truly coming together as a family,” said LB coach Megan Dehart. “We all trust each other infinitely and have each others’ backs. As a coach, you couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Tonight’s game in Daleville is scheduled for 6 p.m.
