Lord Botetourt’s Kirtley wins two state swim medals

Miranda Kirtley finished fourth in the 200 free and third in the 500 free at the VHSL Class 3
State meet last weekend in Richmond. Kirtly swam personal best times in both events.
Katie Cross finished eleventh in the 100 breast and set a new school record of 1:11:54.  All
three girls’ relay teams qualified for finals, swimming best times at prelims and again at finals.
Kate Ryan, Cross, Kirtley, and Madelynn Sprouse finished 13 th  in the 200 IM relay.  Cross,
Sprouse, Sophie Rakes, and Kirtley finished 14 th  in the 200 free relay.  Keeley McNamara, Rakes,
Ryan, and Sprouse finished 13 th  in the 400 relay.
Ryan finished 22 nd  in both the 100 fly and 100 back. Cross finished 19 th  in the 200 IM, Rakes
finished 25 th  in the 50 free, Sprouse finished 22 nd  in the 100 breast, all swimming personal best times.
The boys 400 relay team of James Lively, Cooper Dehr, Griffin Davidson, and Jacob Hodnett
qualified for finals and finished 16 th  with a personal best time in both prelims and finals.  The 200 IM
relay team of Aiden Jones, Cooper Dehr, Griffin Davidson, and Jacob Hodnett finished 18 th .
In the Region 3D meet the previous week at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, the girls 200 IM
relay of Ryan, Cross, Kirtley and Sprouse finished fourth. Kirtley won the 200 free, while Hattie Butler
finished seventh.
Cross took third in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breast. McNamara and Hannah Dillon finished
seventh and eighth in the 200 IM while Rakes finished fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free.
Ryan took fifth in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 backstroke and Dillon finished in eighth place
in the 100 fly.  Sprouse finished sixth in the 500 free and fourth in the 100 breast.
The 200 relay team of Cross, Rakes, Sprouse, and Kirtley finished third in the 200 free.  The 400
relay team of McNamara, Rakes, Ryan, and Kirtley finished third.
In boys’ region competition, Cooper Dehr finished sixth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 back,
while James Lively finished sixth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 50 free.  Griffin Davidson also finished
sixth in the 200 free.
