Fred L. Lucas, 87, of Fincastle, died Monday, June 3, 2019 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Fred was born August 7, 1931 in Botetourt and lived in the area all of his life. He was the son of the late Fred Mathew and Virginia Louise Childs Lucas.
Fred retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1992 after 42 years of service and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, bluegrass and country music.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Lorene in 2013; daughter, Bonnie Sue Ruscigno in 2017; two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Melissa Lucas of Buchanan; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ricky Brookshier of Fincastle; grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Lucas, and Derrick (Amanda) Brookshier; brothers and sister-in-law, Robert Lucas of Eagle Rock, David and Sandra Lucas of Daleville; sisters and brothers-in-law: Margaret and Larry Blair of Alabama, Nancy Davis of Richmond, Martha and Don Hanger of Churchville, Va., and Peggy Waldron of Salem; many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Fred’s life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Fincastle with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery.
