E.D. Schechterly, a James River High School graduate and longtime coach, had his No. 51 jersey retired at a ceremony at Lynchburg College last weekend. Schechterly and two other former players had their jerseys retired and the floor at the Lynchburg College gym was named for retired coach Wayne Proffitt. All three of the former players were All-Americans for the Hornets, and Schechterly still holds several school records, including the career rebounding record of 1,404 and the single season field goal percentage record of 71.9 percent. E.D. is currently the girls basketball coach at James River High School.
