Christiansburg Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred Monday afternoon on Roanoke Street, near the top of Christiansburg Mountain, according to a Christiansburg news release.

Police received a call in reference to the crash at 12:36 p.m. The suspect’s vehicle struck a car, causing that car to hit a parked vehicle. The parked vehicle was pushed into a residence.

The driver of the first car that was hit – Bobby Cornell Handy, 73, of Shawsville – was pronounced dead at the scene. No one was inside the parked vehicle, and there were no other injuries.

The suspect fled the scene but was later taken into custody in the Food Lion parking lot on Roanoke Street.

Westanley Jorthan Balisage, 24, of Roanoke, has been charged with DUI and Felony Hit & Run. He is being held without bond at Montgomery County Jail.
